Waters of the Chagres by Michael J Merry is a collection that contains one novella and five short stories, each one unique. The variety of stories include US forces who were forced to dispose of rifles and grenades to the Republic of Panama in 1999 to an aircraft that crashed while transporting US currency and an American soldier who is imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Also included is the story of how a small mistake can be positively life-changing and how hostages escape kidnapping by rebels in Colombia.
Six-in-one, Waters of the Chagres and five more stories complete this action-packed anthology, filled with stories of survival, danger, love, luck, and much more. There are many surprises, twists, and turns along the way, either ending in disaster or happiness. Each story is unique and interesting including a variety of characters such as soldiers Massey and Maloney, money courier John Lacey, explosives expert Edward Court, prisoners Tim and Memo, fisherman Jake, and rebel leaders.
I particularly enjoyed the variety of locations across the world. The scenes and places are well described such as the Amazon, Miami, Panama, plus mountains, rivers, jungles, and various sites. Each story is smooth flowing from beginning to end with its own unique plot. The attention to detail is remarkable as Michael J Merry explains every small feature in just enough detail such as where treasures may be hidden and how to find them. The short stories make for a quick, easy read. Excellent value for money, thoroughly enjoyable, and highly recommended for everyone.
