Waffles the Mouse by Cotey Gallagher is a fun children's book about a mouse named Waffles. Waffles got his name because he waffles. He can never seem to make up his mind. One day, Waffles and his friends, Mortimer Mole and Harriet Hare, went to the town bazaar. The three friends shop around, but then Waffles catches a whiff of an amazing smell and he follows it. He follows it away from his friends, and past many stalls, one selling a cure for hoarse throats, a stall selling paper links, and past a stall selling yew berry wreaths. What was it that Waffles smelt, and will he be able to relocate his friends again?
I really enjoyed reading Waffles the Mouse written by Cotey Gallagher. The book is very well written and descriptive. Each character is very likeable and the characters are very well developed. I liked that each character has a unique personality, like Waffles can't make up his mind, and Harriet Hare seems to care about how she looks, because she refused to go outside with her hair messy. The book is a great way to teach young children about homonyms and homophones. The book has many funny parts. The pictures by Cotey Gallagher are amazing! These are beautifully drawn, and depict each scene very well. The pictures are also very colorful. Children will enjoy reading this book, and will want to read it again and again. I would definitely recommend this book to all young readers.
