Voice of the Dead (Between Worlds Series Book 2) by Tracee Ford features Dr. Lauren Harris, a forensic psychologist with a secret. She is an empath and can communicate with the dead and feel what they felt before dying. This ability gives her a unique insight into the victims and enables her to solve crimes. She works with Nicholas Bennette, an FBI agent who isn't sure of his new partner and what she can do. He is more strait-laced but learns to respect his partner as they work together. The two of them investigate a murderer and must work together to figure out who he is before he kills again.
Tracee Ford writes a convincing thriller in Voice of The Dead (Between Worlds Series Book 2). The characters are well developed and I think that Lauren's ability works well and really helps the story. There is a good dynamic between Lauren and Nicholas and, like most great partnerships, they don't always agree with each other, but they get the job done. It reminds me a little of the Bones and Booth dynamic from the show Bones. I think it is an element that works well, giving the two leads a chalk and cheese personality clash. Empaths are not covered a lot in books and I enjoyed reading about Lauren's ability and how it affects her in her workplace. I think this will definitely appeal to murder mystery and thriller fans, but also to fans of books with a supernatural element.
