Vineyard Vengeance: Raff Rafferty Mystery Series Book 8 is a sleuth mystery novel written by Robert Joseph. When Pat Vega received an anonymous letter threatening to destroy Vega Vineyards, which had been in his family for hundreds of years, if he didn’t pay them one million dollars, he reached out to Raff, who was not only his parish priest, but had also been in law enforcement in the past. Vega was reluctant to bring the matter up with Sheriff Bob Ralston as he feared any official involvement could jeopardize his already shaky finances. Vega Vineyards was in debt, and this upcoming harvest was crucial for its survival. Pat knew he could rely upon Raff to honor his need for confidentiality, and he was hoping Raff’s law enforcement background would enable him to get to the bottom of the extortion attempt.
Robert Joseph’s sleuth mystery novel, Vineyard Vengeance, is a fast-paced and enthralling novel. While this is the eighth book in the Raff Rafferty Mystery Series, Joseph provides enough background information for this to be read as a standalone. I especially enjoyed the Napa County setting and learning more about the wine industry. Raff’s tour of Vega Vineyards really gave me a feel for life at a working winery. Joseph’s characters are well defined and credible, and the relationship between Raff and his daughter, Fati, is a joy to witness. The plot fairly bristles with red herrings which should provide armchair sleuths with some challenges as they read. I’m a big fan of this series, and found this newest offering to be as enjoyable and well written as its predecessors. Vineyard Vengeance: Raff Rafferty Mystery Series Book 8 is most highly recommended.
