Charles Martin's Unwritten starts with a man named Sunday, who has disappeared from the life he once knew and likes it that way. A recluse living deep in the Thousand Islands off of Florida, he fishes and lives quietly. A good life, most would say. His only friend in the world, a priest named Steady, is also the only person in the world who knows he exists. Steady is the helper of lost souls. A former war time medic, his mission on the battle field and now the spiritual front was and is to remove the gangrene and enable healing. His biggest project is a young actress who rose to the top with his introduction to the theater, but once she arrives has spiraled downward in self destruction. It is only a matter of time before Katie Quinn removes herself with the finality of a closed curtain. Steady helps her with a plan of escaping, just like Sunday did so many years ago. The two seem an unlikely pair, yet with so much in common, the outcome surely will be marked.
Before having the honor to review Charles Martin's audio book, Unwritten, I was unfamiliar with his work. This man drew me instantly into his tale and only released me when the time was right. If you want a book that will captivate you, and take you on an emotional roller coaster ride, then this is the one for you. The characters, while seemingly far fetched, become quickly believable in this world of fast lives and off the grid lifestyles. You will not be disappointed!!
