Underneath the Fireflies is a compelling mystery by Marianne Scott. Grace Walker has a gift of sight that only the pure of heart have. After a tragic accident at her workplace, Grace is on her way to Galliano Island to take a break from everything that has happened. As soon as Grace arrives, she feels something is demanding her attention. When Grace sees the murder of a woman in a vision, she knows she has to find the killer. An indigenous girl is missing, and the police do not pay much attention to her disappearance. Everyone is under the impression that the girl ran away. Grace cannot go to the police without any evidence, and in her search for evidence, she attracts the killer's attention; she could be his next victim.
Underneath the Fireflies is compelling and intriguing. Marianne Scott creates a world wherein Grace sees visions and can read the weather and energy around her. I was hooked from the beginning until the end. The narrative moved fluidly through the chapters and was easy to read. Some of the events were vivid, and I could see clear images in my mind. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were authentic and well-developed. My favorite character was Grace. She relied on her gift to read people's energy and knew whether she could trust someone. The story is brilliantly written, and the concept is unique. With all the twists and turns, the ending truly surprised me.
