Before Anthony’s beloved mom passes away from cancer, the match-maker in her decides Elizabeth is the wife her nearly 40-year-old son is meant to have, and does her best to help that happen. Sparks fly…but they almost become firecrackers when Liz learns the truth about Anthony’s sexual tastes.
Sometimes a book comes along that doesn’t rely on fancy wording, intricate plotting, complicated characters and literary devices to draw you inside the story. In short, it’s a tale that simply touches your heart without taxing your brain, and once in a while, we need simple. That’s what Raykel Tolson gives us in Undefiled; an unadorned story of love in all its forms: romantic, sexual, familial and spiritual…a welcome sojourn into the lives of everyday, ordinary people. What is especially endearing about Undefiled is the naturalness of the family dynamics: love of family, religion, good cooking, good times and good people dominate the narrative. Religion and sex play into many of the characters’ lives, but again, both areas are explored realistically and gracefully. Undefiled is a short story that leaves readers with the warm fuzzies. Enjoy!
