Turning Up the Heat is the fourth book in the Cindy's Crusades series by Susan Jean Ricci, and is a very quick read. It’s a novella that starts with the description of steamy sex and builds up to the complexities in a relationship between Mark and Malibu, two people who adore each other and who are just as excited about tying the knot as they are about exploring each other’s nude bodies. But then unexpectedly, the past catches up with them and an old adversary is about to destroy everything they have built together. Mark gets bitten by a poisonous snake and Malibu’s uncle gets injured by an exploding golf ball. With an ongoing investigation, can they get things back on track for the wedding?
First the author makes the reader discover a couple that shares an electrifying kind of intimacy, where everything seems perfect for Malibu and her alpha male, Mark, but then this union is threatened by circumstances they don’t see coming. The characters are real and readers will enjoy the way they are developed, from Mark and Malibu, to Priscilla and Clayton, to Ronnie O’Hare. Susan Jean Ricci has the gift of grabbing the attention of the reader and keeping them engaged and emotionally committed throughout the story. The narrative is punctuated by emotionally charged scenes, captured in vivid, descriptive prose that leaves out no details. The story moves pretty fast and the author uses humor, suspense, and mystery to make the read an enjoyable one. Turning Up the Heat is a great read for fans of short stories and sizzling romance.
