There is little doubt that Edward M. Kennedy left his mark on the world. He was the youngest of nine children. Less was expected of him than his siblings. In his younger years he in his own words made some bad decisions. If I were the family of Mary Jo Kepechne I would wonder why he never paid for his mistakes. If he had not been a Kennedy he would have faced a jury. The Kennedy’s seem to have a way of avoiding justice. I am unsure how he managed to live with himself. However, that was all in the past. He matured and accepted his role as Senator.
True Compass is rather superficial. It glosses over his personal life. It all but ignores his wife Joan. He spends much time praising Vickie. I have no problem with this aspect.
Like all the Kennedy’s he lived under a microscope. His life was not his own. The press and public were watching him closely. For the length of this book I expected a bit more substance. This book reads much like a diary. Fans of Edward M. Kennedy will enjoy this book.
