I had a successful law practice for many years before retiring. Any worries that I had about how I would occupy my time during retirement have been laid to rest. I spend four days each week volunteering at Insight, which serves people with memory issues. I've never had so much fun and have made friends with the most amazing people I've met. While I'm at home, I enjoy exercising, reading and writing, theater, concerts, travel, music, friends and family, trying to play guitar and following the New York Giants football team and Washington Capitals hockey team. My life is never dull.

Treble Damages by David L. Elkind is a slice-of-life novel following the life and career of a gifted lawyer obsessed with winning at any cost. Raised by a strict authoritarian of a father who used to physically beat him, Jack Pressler grows up angry and resentful of anyone who dares to cross him. After distinguishing himself as a law student at New York University, Jack joins Ludden Simmons, a law firm specializing in antitrust litigations. Soon, his relentless drive and ruthless ambition see Jack being made a partner at a relatively young age. However, his work and apathetic attitude prohibit him from delving into meaningful relationships. Although he continues his meteoric rise in the firm, his marriage falls apart. Can Jack turn his life around?
Author David L. Elkind tells a moving tale about a man consumed by anger and ego, which propels him toward a successful professional career in exchange for losing his humanity, bit by bit, and being driven by the sole purpose of winning at any cost. Jack is an absolutely riveting protagonist. He has layers of depth to his character, which get slowly peeled away as the narrative moves forward. Jack's complex morals and his tendency to be an antagonist as well as a protagonist in the story make him fascinating to read. The fact that even with all his success, he still can't let go of any slight to his person, real or imagined, speaks volumes about his massive ego. I highly recommend Treble Damages to readers who enjoy slice-of-life stories.
