Tortured to Triumphant: One Woman's Spiritual Journey Through Complex PTSD by LU is a heartbreaking yet inspirational tale of a woman who survived abuse despite the odds. LU’s luck wasn’t on her side from the moment she was born. Born to parents who didn’t want her, LU was neglected and abused by the people who were supposed to love her unconditionally. Abandoned at three, LU was adopted by a couple, but instead of love, she was taught she didn’t deserve love and was brutally hurt every day. Growing up was hard, but it was when she was thirty-three years old that she was finally declared dead. However, God wanted to give her another chance at life, and LU gratefully took it. With her second chance, she was determined to live a better and happier life. She wore her scars with pride, held her head high, and started a new life in which she was closer to God and happier than ever.
I cried while reading this story because it became harder for me to read at certain parts. The author was honest from the very beginning and made the narrative feel real. She didn’t hold back and she always made sure she had the absolute attention of the reader at all times. Her journey was nothing short of a miracle. She lived a hard, scary life and I don’t think many people could live in such circumstances. Many would give up, but she didn’t. Her courage showed when she put herself together every time people in her life disappointed her. While always vulnerable and scared, the LU who was in touch with God and the LU who was alone were two very different people, and you can tell by her growth. I was amazed and privileged to have witnessed her life through her very powerful words in Tortured to Triumphant. This book is not only an inspiration for others but a promise of a better tomorrow if only we fight long enough.
