Tortured Past (The Pub Series) (Volume 2) by Nicole De La Cruz is a romance between two tortured souls. Amy is hurting and deals with her pain with alcohol, cigarettes, and sleeping with random men. She grew up with an alcoholic mother and left at 18 due to the abuse. She has male friends, but isn't interested in a long term relationship and won't let a man get too close. But that all changes when she meets Clive. Amy and Clive have a one night stand at Amy's friend's wedding. After they sleep together, they start spending more time together and share pieces of themselves that they've never shared before. But Clive Harrington battles against his own demons that keep him from getting too close to any woman. Can the two of them overcome their past demons and have a chance at happiness together? Or will they let their pasts overcome their one chance at true love?
Tortured Past is an emotionally exhausting story that tackles tough subjects like child abuse. It is not your typical perky, cheerful romance, but that grittiness and rawness are what make the story so beautiful. Nicole De La Cruz's character development is great and there are a number of well written secondary characters that may see their own spin off stories soon. This is a well written, strong and emotional storyline with a great flow. I enjoyed this story and wanted more when it came to an end.
