"Top o' the Mornin' Mini Minnie!," written by Connie Mace and illustrated by Nancy Swanda Hansen, will be requested to be read again and again by children as it is a delightful, imaginative story that also teaches a valuable lesson. Mini dreams of sailing to where she can find rocks that are red, blue, yellow and green, different from the silvery ones she finds at her home. Mini does not have the money to travel, but God whispers to her that He gave her that dream and that He has a plan. Mini receives a message in a bottle from her Granny and Mini travels back in the bottle to Ireland. Not only does Mini find the rocks she wanted but she also gets the time to spend with Granny. Most importantly, though, Mini learns that trusting God is the best and that He has plans for each person.

This book has so much to it! Not only is it a cute story with repetition making it a "catchy" read for young children, but it is a counting book as well, filled with beautiful illustrations. It has a great lesson shared throughout it! I love how the book is designed. I love the layout of each page with the illustration at the center and the beach border on the top and the words written on the bottom on what looks like a rolled up paper (a message in a bottle). It is all very creative and cute. This is really a great book to stimulate a child's imagination and can lead to his or her own dreams as to where they would like to go, mode of transportation and what they might collect. Learning to count in Irish is a nice addition to the story as well as the details about the Irish culture and life. Mini gets to spend time with her Granny and learn about her life. This would be an excellent choice of a book for grandparents to share with their grandchildren. There are words in the book that young children will not know or understand but it is a great way for them to practice their counting skills, learn about a different culture, and use their imaginations.
