Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal by Mark Blaise is the second installment of his collection of short stories, which consists of five more of his unique and sexy paranormal tales. He has an array of intriguing characters in these stories like Franklin, Fenton, Philip, Perrin and Pharaoh. Franklin is a gay waiter who finds himself in a compromising situation with Garbes in the restaurant’s cellar, where strange things are happening, and he eventually ends up in the hospital. Fenton is a Vietnam War veteran who left his material possessions to his nephew Draper when he died. During the funeral, Draper will meet his uncle’s lover, the literally ageless Angel. Seventeen-year-old Philip is bothered by what he calls a black curtain of amnesia and seeks help from a therapist. Perrin is in a relationship and he is about to divulge a family secret no one would expect. Pharaoh is a psychiatrist whose scars on both his thumbs make him a target of his patients who think he has supernatural powers. The collection also includes an LGBT card game called the Full Frontal Fours.
Mark Blaise’s Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal consists of five stories that are exceedingly intriguing. All the stories are edgy and somewhat dark, but none of them are quite the same. Some stories have supernatural twists, others have more logical conclusions, and still others can make you ask what on earth am I reading? But having said that, this is definitely part of the charm of the author’s writing style. Eloquent, fluid and vivid, all the stories are definitely introspective. Some of his concepts may be hard to understand precisely because reading his stories is like going inside a strange person’s subconscious.
I particularly enjoyed the lengths to which Mark Blaise goes to set the tone of his stories, like the vivid scenes and the development of his characters, leading to an altogether interesting narrative. Tongue Twisted Two: Five Freaky Fables Featuring Full Frontal is absorbing, stimulating and exciting. This is a book for adult readers who enjoy something new, different and fascinating!
