I enjoyed Pursuit of the Thunderbird mainly because it offers essential glimpses of Tom's and Lovey's backstories and because it is driven by the history of Tom’s immortality and supernatural adventure. I recommend it to those genuinely interested in rich horror and fantasy stories. It is creepy, suspenseful, and quite terrifying.

The suspense and mystery kept me on the edge of my seat. There was no way I could guess what would happen next. The events were vividly described, and the touches of humor lightened the mood. There were many characters, and everybody’s role was explained as the story progressed. I got to know them better through their background stories. Tom and Lovey are a dynamic couple, and the way that they protected each other was fascinating. Lovey’s panther form was majestic and exciting. This book is nothing like any other fantasy or horror story I have read before.

I love the incorporation of Navajo legends and their spiritual beliefs, and that Jerry is able to exercise the restraint of a seasoned author in his gradual build-us, particularly as Lovey uncovers the truth behind Tom's behavior and the sinister entity that threatens them both, leading to a journey to confront the unknown. The shapeshifter transformations are spectacularly described, the best being a confrontation with Devil No Name. I can find no fault in this series whatsoever and am excited to see what Jerry gives us next. Very highly recommended.

Pursuit of the Thunderbird by G R Jerry pulled me in immediately and even though I started with book two I never felt like I was missing key elements. Jerry threads a diverse cast of characters from different tribal backgrounds together, creating a rich and complex world. Tom and Lovey are likeable and the coupling of personal and supernatural challenges made them relatable and made me sympathetic to their plight. The scenery is written in what is best described as visually cinematic prose, the standout to me being Canyon de Chelly and the ghostly gathering in the underground kiva. Time travel and an alternate reality scenario were unexpected but I loved them! Going back to the 1800s during the Apache wars and blurring the lines between history and the paranormal superbly. I hope book three isn't too far off.

They then continue south to New Mexico, colliding directly with Tom's past. The disappearance of his former mentor, Red Deer, and the sorcery surrounding the twins from his past will haunt both of them. Tom and Lovey will need help from the afterlife and other mystical creatures. Will they manage to emerge victorious this time?

G.R. Jerry has outdone himself with Tom and Lovey II: Pursuit of the Thunderbird. It is not common for sequels to be better than the original, but I do believe this is the case. He tells the main story intertwined with snippets of the past, managing to build a bigger picture while making the plot even more engaging. By doing so, the reader can create a deeper connection with the characters they already know from the previous book. These characters are strong and fierce - a necessary trait to face the horrific events that will happen to them during the plot. Their personalities are well-defined and are easily distinguishable from other characters. This book has an incredible effect on the reader. Despite it being terrifying, you will not be able to put it down until the end.
