In Timmy's Dream by Joyce Red Encizo, Timmy the turtle dares to dream of soaring through the skies, defying the doubts of his mother and Uncle Herbert. Unfazed by their skepticism and determined to make his dream a reality, Timmy embarks on an adventure in search of companions who might help him achieve his dreams. He approaches a horse, a cow, and a goat, but each encounter leaves him feeling more discouraged. As Timmy is on the verge of giving up, he faces a sudden and unexpected challenge that demands the use of his extraordinary turtle abilities. Amidst this surprising challenge, Timmy discovers a newfound appreciation for his unique gifts and realizes his dreams can come true in ways he never imagined.
Timmy's Dream addresses themes such as curiosity, exploration, dreams, confidence, bravery, self-discovery, and self-acceptance. The story is simple and easy to understand, making it suitable for young readers. The seamless combination of dialogue and descriptive passages brings the characters and the story to life. Timmy's character is heroic and I believe it will resonate with young minds, inspiring them to pursue their dreams despite criticism. Joyce Red Encizo subtly emphasizes the importance of adults in motivating and guiding young minds to explore continuously and learn from their mistakes. The story also reinforces the idea that it's acceptable to be different and that every individual has something valuable to offer. I recommend Timmy's Dream for children aged 3 and above, and it's a great choice for bedtime storytelling.
