Thunder Rumble Masters: Freedom Is A Sweet Road to Hell by François Nkodo is a political thriller that will make you sit on the edge of your seat and hold your breath. Rachel Anderson is an activist, a believer in women’s rights, and equal opportunities. She is also a STEM graduate who is desperate to make ends meet and stay afloat. However, everything she knows comes crashing down when her friend Lakeesha is murdered. She embroils herself in the investigation team led by Sheriff David Brown. The two of them are very different, yet somehow, they prove to be the best duo to work on this case. However, the deeper they look into the case, the nastier it becomes. They have to fight against a very old cartel and current political conditions to find the killer and bring justice where it is needed the most. Will they solve the case before it is too late?
Thunder Rumble Masters is a good amalgamation of multiple subplots that work together to elevate the main plot of the story. The narrative flows smoothly, but it is fragmented and that can be distracting in the beginning. However, it gets better as the story progresses and all the subplots have their foundations laid nice and smooth. The banter between David and Rachel is very entertaining and so are the dialogues in general. The story is very in tune with the current civil unrest in the country and gives a pretty decent overview of how things escalated. François Nkodo adds in the right amount of mystery and action to make sure the reader doesn’t let go of the story and keeps on reading until the end. This is an enjoyable novel that gives one a lot to think about.
