Kelley Dupuis shares his story with readers. While this story’s focus in on Kelley’s relationship with his father, the author shares much of his own story along the way. His career, his failed marriage, his affair, is honestly discussed in this book. He also introduces readers to members of his family. Most of which would be deemed dysfunctional.
The description of Dupuis’s father will shock some people. The man was a rude, selfish bully. Knowing this it is refreshing and heartwarming to witness the compassion Dupuis has for his father.
Parent and child relationships are often difficult. The relationship between Kelley Dupuis and his father was no different. However, they had a love of baseball to bridge the gap between them.
Kelley became his father’s caregiver in the last years of the elder’s life. It is gratifying to know that they had a connection. Dementia steals the lives of its victims. It is sad to watch. Three Flies Up is well written. Children caring for an aging parent will find hope in Three Flies Up.
