Thistle Inferno is the third book in The Juniper Wars series by Aaron Michael Ritchey, a gripping sci-fi story with awesome characters and a riveting plot. Set in a dystopian world, in 2058, the Sino-American War has ravaged the world. But humanity also suffers from a horrible epidemic that has greatly reduced the male population. Across the five states, there is no electricity. It is in this dismal setting that Cavatica Weller and her sisters lead a herd of cattle across an impossible landscape, facing the worst forms of dangers, including blizzards, outlaws and a cloned army of powerful fighters. They are yet to face the worst threat ever, as the enemy’s face unveils and they find themselves trapped. Can they find their way past the dangerous city ruled by men to embrace freedom?
Aaron Michael Ritchey is a good storyteller with a great gift for setting. I love books that transport me into different worlds, that allow me the feeling of the strange familiarity we experience after a beautiful dream about places we have never seen but that feel like part of us. This book evokes that feeling powerfully, thanks to the author’s gift for crafting settings that are tangible and realistic. The writing is excellent and it features vivid descriptions. The story is told in an absorbing first person narrative voice that seduces the reader from the very first page. Readers will love the great characters, the wonderful pacing, and the gripping plot. I found Thistle Inferno to be a very delightful and engrossing read.
