Overall, the book was touching. The author utilized her poetic ability to deliver a compassionate remembrance of a loved one through the art of poetry. It takes faith and courage to forgive someone for altering a life. Forgiveness manifests when you able to share fragments of a heart that has been wounded. This Side of Heaven: A Poetic Journey of Strength and Survival is Kreceda W Tyler's gift of healing to others. Poetry becomes an expression of the heart that whispers inspirations.
A line from her poem entitled, "MADD Mama" which is an acronym for Mothers Against Drunk Driving:
"Despite all of the heartbreak, you didn’t break me
Not a weapon alive could ever make me
Bend against my Father’s will
Because He made my family Angels and made peace be still Within my heart and within my life and today it still rings
For just like Maya Angelou, I know why the caged bird sings
And even though you’ve humored me a while
And despite being the childless mother and a motherless child
I’m doing something you could never do for me
I forgive you…and set my caged bird free."
The book was moving. Being a poet myself, I could feel the sentiments of the author's heart with each line. Truly a heart-felt read!
