This Changes Things by Ben Sharpton starts with Jim Bishop who has recently lost his wife to a medical condition. Ever since his wife has gone, there is a gaping hole in his life. Jim then attempts to find ways to fill the gaps in his empty heart. However, everything gets more complicated for him when his path is crossed by a list of people: a dude obsessed with computer stuff, a workaholic executive, a stressed-out nurse, an athletic minister, and a pregnant homeless woman. Each and every one of them has their own reason for being stressed, feeling angry, feeling like there is a hole in their hearts. Unraveling ugly truths from within, can Jim finally feel at peace?
This Changes Things by Ben Sharpton is truly a magnificent story. Ever since the pandemic started due to Covid-19, people around me, including myself, are constantly struggling with our own demons. Some of us are trying to cope with the loneliness of being away from family, while others are facing mounting debts from businesses. Ben Sharpton did an excellent job at solidifying the struggles each character faces, which I can relate to in an instant. The complexity of this tale amazes me, as fate bumps each character and a new bond is formed, all relating back to the grieving Jim Bishop. I also really liked Jim’s struggles and conflicting emotions in continuing his wife’s legacy, which adds more depth to his character. I would definitely recommend this book. In fact, I would like to re-read this again because that’s just how good it is!
