These Are My Pants is written by Jane and Katelyn Plank and illustrated by Aniqa Ashfaq. Sam has lots of pants that he loves to wear at certain times or for certain purposes. He has pants for games of hide-and-seek, lounging and reading, playing baseball, and for bedtime. His pants are in his favorite colors or matched to a specific task. Veggie pants for helping in the kitchen, sheep or stars for sleeping, and his baseball pants for game play. When he meets someone who has nothing left but the torn pants they are wearing, what is Sam to do? Should he ignore the tears or try to help someone who is in need?
These Are My Pants by Jane and Katelyn Plank is one of the most inspiring children’s books I have read in a very long time. Sam’s excitement over his supply of clothes is the most natural response a young person can have over the things they like. But Sam has a giving nature that makes him do something kind and generous like helping those who are less fortunate than he is. The illustrations by Aniqa Ashfaq are absolutely beautiful and give children colorful images to follow with the story. My favorite thing about this book is the message it delivers about sharing and have a giving nature. The noble idea of inspiring children and parents to donate their unused and unneeded items to Goodwill so that others can have access to more help is nothing short of wonderful. I hope the Planks continue to write more stories like These Are My Pants and I truly hope they succeed in their mission!
