There's A Duck In The House is a children's book written by Don M. Winn and illustrated by Joshua Wichterich. It is a lazy day. At home, Martha reads a book while Frank goes upstairs to run a bath. When Martha starts screaming, Frank comes running as the sound in the chimney grows louder. Both are afraid until finally, a duck comes out, covered in soot. Frank and Martha both try to shoo the duck outside. The duck jumps on Frank's chair, before waddling up to the bathroom where he climbs in for a bath. For the first time, Frank and Martha see that the duck is brown, not black. Waddling into Frank's closet, the duck steals one of Frank's ties before going to the kitchen to eat Martha's freshly baked cake. Excited at what she is seeing, Martha quickly puts a party hat on the duck, causing Frank to run outside for some fresh air. As the duck follows Frank, Martha suggests they call the duck Oliver. When Frank realizes that the duck is out of the house, he quickly runs back inside, closing all the doors and locking them. Feeling victorious, Frank looks at the duck which is now staring at him through the window...

By this point I was in hysterics, laughing so hard my stomach hurt. Don M. Winn's hilarious tale, based on a true story, amused me so much that I contacted my mother, who lives on the other side of the world, and told her what I'd just read. For the first time, a single book connected us both emotionally via a long-distance phone call. The illustrations are perfectly in sync with the story and I have a feeling that There's A Duck In The House will be one of those wonderful tales that is handed down through generations, causing many giggles for years to come. Amazing stories such as this type are what keep a party flowing, adding a hefty dose of mirth to the festivities. I believe adults and children alike will love There's A Duck In The House and am thankful that I was blessed enough to pick it from the bookshelf for review.

Have you ever had a bird fall down your chimney into the fireplace? I have. How about a duck? Now, you’re probably wondering how a duck would get into the chimney in the first place. Well, perhaps we’ll never know, but it does make for an interesting and humorous story, as Don M. Winn proves in his book, There’s a Duck in the House. His duck comes down their chimney all covered in soot, then makes himself at home, first in Frank’s favorite chair, leaving a dust bowl of soot all over the chair. Then, he finds his way to the bathroom where Frank’s late morning bubble bath awaits and the duck dives in, turning the clean bubbles and water into a sooty mess. But that’s not all the duck does – he invades every space of the house and makes everything his, even Frank. Yup! He’s decided that Frank is his newest best friend and he’s determined to follow Frank everywhere.

Don M. Winn’s picture book, There’s A Duck in the House, is a riotously funny adventure, based on an actual event. Told in simple language so young readers can easily follow along, the plot follows the duck’s invasion of Frank and Martha’s house and the messy havoc that follows his every step. The illustrations add to the humor of the unfolding plot and readers young and old will be sharing more than a few chuckles. This is a great story for quality, shared family time. Loved it!
