Angelina, a lively young girl, prepares for her baby brother Jack's christening. It's a happy event for her big family. They will gather in the church, and after the ceremony, they will go to Zia Lucia’s house to celebrate and have fun. Angelina's Mama offered Angelina her blue beads to wear for the event. But Angelina found a small pearl button in the jewelry box and forgot about the beads. Mama told her that the button from her wedding glove had come off during a dance. Mama asked Angelina to keep this precious memory, and the girl gladly agreed. But when Angelina's mischievous cousin Maxie invited her to play hide and seek, she couldn't resist and lost the button she wore on a cord around her neck. Will Angelina find the button to preserve this valuable memory? The Yesterday Dress by Teena Raffa-Mulligan is an engaging read for children and adults alike.

Teena Raffa-Mulligan's The Yesterday Dress is a beautifully written, heartwarming, and engaging story—the narrative centers around Angelina and her progress as a collector of remarkable objects and stories. In the beginning, Angelina said that she preferred all things new and not some old stuff that may look funny or inappropriate, like an old christening gown for Jack. But as the events unfold, Angelina begins to realize how meaningful old things are if they carry the significance of family relics. These "yesterday things," as she calls them, are ties between generations of her big loving family. Teena tells us how important family history is for young children, especially if the family is multicultural. I appreciated Teena's humorous writing style and striking secondary characters. Overall, The Yesterday Dress is a thrilling story about a young treasure hunter, Angelina, with a flavor of a family mystery.
