The Year After by Katy Martin is a heartrending book that will give courage to all mothers and bereaved parents to put the pieces of their lives back together. The author shares her personal grief of losing her son Beau, and how her husband Brodie and she dealt with their brokenness and shattered hearts after their baby was stillborn. The book speaks about the healing journey of the author and her husband, and how they managed to put back the pieces of their lives after experiencing their grief fully. They also speak about the topic of stillbirth and give courage, strength, and healing to many parents in a similar situation who are trying hard to deal with the loss of a child.
The Year After by Katy Martin will help readers understand how important it is to have an understanding of their own feelings, self-acceptance, self-belief, and forgiveness to move forward in life after a tragedy like this. The author is honest when she bares her heart in the book and her raw emotions and pain are tangible; there is no bitterness or resentment in her voice. She helps readers understand how grief can be perceived, and how it is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith, but a sign of love.
