The Web Paige Chronicles by Emilio Iasiello is about a twelve-year-old computer whiz, who is called Web by her friends. As Web works on other people's computers, she tries to help them do better in the future with cybersecurity. She describes and explains how and why to choose better passwords. One of her recommendations is not to click on emails that say you have a bunch of money coming, which leads to ransomware and the locking of the computer. Another internet problem discussed is the hacking of baby monitors that are meant to send the feed to the parents' cell phones or laptops. Web explains about game apps that are put on phones but bring viruses. Sexting and cyberbullying are discussed.
In The Web Paige Chronicles by Emilio Iasiello, I like the password advice for readers. I love that when she described her mother's nursing job, she explained the terms of compassion and empathy. I like that Web doesn't want fame or money, she just wants to help. I learned many things about cybersecurity and some simple fixes for problems. I appreciated the trusting relationship between Web and her parents. I liked the comparison between spies in the old days looking for information and spies on the internet looking for information. I am glad cyberbullying is discussed. I like the tips for keeping safe online and the online resources which are at the end of the book. I particularly like that while the book is geared toward middle school kids, and looks like a fiction story, which attracts them, it is full of important things they need to know. I think this would be a good book for kids at school to read and discuss.
