The Wages of Sin: A Swift River Inspirational Story, by Jim Overturf, is a compelling Christian romance with suspense and heart. This satisfying story opens with the main character Angie Prescotte's stolen Porsche but develops into an intriguing plot with depth and character. It explores the theme of choices that we make in our lives, the consequences of them, and the quest for setting things right again. One message is clear: Once the damage is done, it can't be undone. But can there ever be atonement for mistakes? One of the biggest lessons of this story is that the things we do impact others in profound ways.
The protagonist, Angie, is the first female racecar driver in Swift River Valley, and circumstances take place that drive her to correct her choices, if possible. Like a good race, this plot begins at a steady pace, then picks up speed, never getting bogged down or stale. Once you're introduced to Angie and her life, you're hooked and need to find out how it ends. The dialogue is natural, the conflict and dilemmas real, the angst palpable. You can easily place yourself in the shoes of the characters and wonder how you would react. Overturf writes with an insider's confidence and expertise and gives us a personal view of the racing world, but this is still a very human story of financial difficulty and family support that will keep you emotionally invested. There are also lessons of faith, like trusting God even when things look bad and you want to doubt. If you're looking for a solid story about faith and redemption, The Wages of Sin: A Swift River Inspirational Story by Jim Overturf is a perfect choice.
