The Vulkodlak Curse is a work of magical fantasy fiction penned by author James William Peercy and forms the fifth book in the epic Xun Ove fantasy series. Having read some of the series before, it was fascinating to return to Peercy’s lavish world of magic and monsters and see what the next beast is that awaits our heroes. All of the popular characters are back, Bob the Pixie and Jonna in particular, as threats from past and present reunite with more power than ever. The Vulkodlak is the worst of them all, a terrifying combination of vampire and werewolf, fit for little but death and destruction.
Author James William Peercy writes with a deep commitment to the depiction and description of his fantasy world and those who inhabit it. Where humans face the unfathomable depths of dark magic, Peercy brings us close to the action and explains his lore and monster-making very convincingly. Fans of the series will find themselves back with old favorites and see relationships developing in some interesting new ways, whilst newcomers could enjoy the terror and action of the rise of the Vulkodlak as a fantasy horror novel in and of itself. Either way, Peercy creates fantastic tension, suspense and action for the cast as they pit their wits against another demonic foe amid the lavish and well-described world he has crafted. Overall, The Vulkodlak Curse is a superb addition to an engaging fantasy series for fans of action, thrills and relatable heroes and their deeds.
