As a Christian, I enjoy contemplating on what it might have been like to be live and in-person at events in the Bible. This story came to me after I wrote my first biblical fiction book, The Cloak, which was about what might have happened to the Roman soldier who won Jesus' cloak at the foot of the cross. In similar style, The Veil follows a young Jewish boy who was chosen to be a Priest's understudy. They were together in the tabernacle when Jesus died and found themselves to be eyewitnesses to one of the greatest miracles in the Bible...the tearing of the veil.

The Veil by Wanda Luthman is an imagining of what could have happened during the tearing of the veil inside the Tabernacle. According to Jewish tradition, the thirteenth birthday is very special for boys. It's when they get to read from the Torah for their families, and it also signifies the transition to manhood. Samuel, who is from the tribe of Levi, chooses to read from the prophet Isaiah on his thirteenth birthday. The reading is very inspiring, and, after the ceremony, he is chosen to study under the priest to serve God and his people. This is what he had hoped for, but parting from his family is very emotional. It is during his induction with the priest that they both experience something marvelous in the holy of holies.
In The Veil by Wanda Luthman, the vivid descriptions of emotions and events helped me create a mental picture of what was happening. Despite it being a work of fiction, I loved the close connection to the relevant scriptures, which made this book excellent at passing on the intended message. The characters were well-developed and relatable. Wanda also went the extra mile and provided a prayer, which I found to be thought-provoking. I believe this book offers direction for those wanting to know more about salvation and the scriptures. I look forward to reading something else by Wanda on spiritual matters.
The Veil is narrated by Isaac Taccone. Isaac did not just read the book; he brought it to life by mimicking the appropriate sounds. He raised and lowered the intonations where appropriate, making it very entertaining. I loved, in particular, his narration of the character of Samuel, who is only a boy. I believe his warm tone will make readers receptive to the message of the book.
