Join two young adventurers as they try to build their own tree house in The Tree House Night by Tuula Pere. This summer, Emma and Oliver plan to build a tree house on their own. Oliver is a bit worried about taking the old boards and nails that belong to Emma's father without asking permission. However, Emma reassures him, and soon, the hard-working builders lift the supplies into the tree and start working. Emma is happy to trust her instincts and improvise as they build. But the boards and ropes keep falling, and the nails disappear into the grass. Emma is determined to sleep in the rag-tag tree house they built tonight. Although her parents don't give her permission, in the middle of the night, Emma climbs up the tree house ladder and settles in.

The Tree House Night is a fun-filled tale about friendship and adventure. Two young friends set a goal to build a tree house without any help from their parents and have to navigate many challenges along the way. Emma and Oliver's struggles are inspiring in a way because even when things go wrong, Emma continues to go ahead with her plans and strives to complete the task she said she would. I liked how Emma and Oliver both have very different personalities. Emma is impulsive and lives in the moment while Oliver thinks things through. But when Emma needs him, Oliver stands by her side like a true friend. This is yet another captivating adventure by Tuula Pere featuring beautiful illustrations by Catty Flores. Young readers will find a lot to love in this book!
