The “Timepiece Legacy” by award-winning author Kevin D. Miller is the first book in a ScFi trilogy. In addition to SciFi, the book contains elements of Historical Fiction, Romance, and white-knuckled Adventure. The story is original, imaginative, and totally unpredictable. I was grabbed from the first page and stayed to the end to find out where the author was taking me.

The story opens in California with the main character, successful forty-two year-old Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. James Bodhi McMullen, visiting his elderly grandmother in hospice. He is shocked and aggrieved at what seems her sudden decline. Since his “Grams” raised him, it’s hard to contemplate saying goodbye. This is only the first shock this visit brings him. Awakening from a nap, Grams confides she has important things to share with him and must do so before she passes.

Puzzled, Bodhi settles in to listen and is soon gobsmacked. Grams tells him his real grandfather was a Captain in the Revolutionary War. Though this sounds delusional, he agrees to hear her out. She explains she’s a time traveler and then presents him with an exquisite, highly unusual, timepiece, along with her journal. She tells him the timepiece is dangerous and entreats him to return it to the family jewelry store where she stole it when she was a young girl. She admonishes him not to keep it because it ruined her life. She tells Bodhi there are things in this universe one cant’t explain. Anxious for any explanation, he tearfully watches as Grams slips away.

Soon after this he attempts to follow her advice but the family who originally owned the timepiece refuse to take it back, saying it is has uncontrollable and catastrophic powers and that they tricked his grandmother into stealing it all those years ago. Unsure what to do, Bodhi takes it home and, anxious to heal the wound his divorce caused with his beloved seventeen-year-old daughter Cassie, shows her the timepiece and journal.

At this point in the story the action really takes off, thanks to the mysterious timepiece. It affects both Bodhi and his daughter, and you, the reader, who, without warning, are swept to a different time and place. This leads to a series of heart-in-your-throat dangers as well as head-scratching plot twists.

“Timepiece Legacy” also offers poignant moments and hints at some life lessons. Author Miller’s story worms it’s way into your heart through his smooth, yet engaging prose, compelling characters, and clever plot. Buckle up and suspend your disbelief for an enjoyable reading experience.

I highly recommend this book for SciFi, Time Travel, Action and Adventure fans. I was happy to learn “Timepiece Legacy” will be followed by two other books. Next up is “Timepiece Paradox,” due out in early 2024.

Intriguing

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kevin gets you to know the characters and draws you in to the story. I couldn’t put it down and read it all in one evening!! This is my third book by Kevin. His writing is so descriptive and always keeps your interest. I highly recommend reading all of his books. Can’t wait until the second of this series comes out!

Another great one!

I was so excited to get Kevin’s new book, and as always, once I picked it up I could not put it down. I’m not kidding when I say everytime I receive one of his books, I start reading and don’t stop until I make it to the last page. It’s a bonus to know that this time the story doesn’t have to end--a sequel is already on the horizon.
Kevin is a great storyteller! He consistently creates characters you become invested in and plot lines that twist and turn at the most unexpected times. I’m always amazed that Kevin is able to create these unique worlds that suck you in from the first pages. Every book shares the same qualities, yet every book presents an entirely fresh and new story line. Now he’s taken on time travel with an entirely new approach — and it works! I loved this story, and I can’t wait for the second book!

Another great book from Kevin Miller!!! A must read!!! Beautiful love story coupled with my favorite time travel mystery… great from beginning to end. 5 Stars!!!

A unique take on time travel. It is only available to very limited group of people that must discover how to use it in a private secretly way. The plot thickens when the daughter gets involved, disappears in time, and the father must find her. She doesn't have the timepiece to get back on her own. A captivating adventure.

The main character is an incredibly dedicated amateur volcanologist, whose thinking and perspective make her a fan favorite early into the read.

The writing throughout is superb: solidly researched and vividly detailed, and will provoke lots of reflection regarding morality, honor, and human decisions. I like how the story begins with his grandmother, and just builds from there. A dangerous wormhole separates father and daughter in time. He will do anything for his daughter, and mend their broken bond, but will it be enough? This is book one of a trilogy, and if the two following books are as good, you will be in for some of the best writing and storytelling in the genre. Readers will find themselves emotionally invested in the characters and will love the story. Reading “The Timepiece Legacy: Book One of the Timepiece Series” by Kevin D. Miller will make you an instant fan.
