The Three Worlds is the second book of the Monster Realm Series. Although I haven’t read book one, nevertheless, this book was completely entertaining. The three girls go on a delightful, yet highly dangerous adventure in this story for Young Adults. Nara Duffie certainly builds upon book one, and then stretches this second book into one that reaches out wider and farther in the narrative! I could imagine myself in the underwater siren city, and going into a new realm in a fight to save our Earth as we know it. The story makes for an excellent Young Adult read. This book does contain a certain amount of darkness and violence, since Earth is being saved, yet one must expect a certain amount in this type of book.
Duffie’s story line is solid and nicely done, and the characters are well developed. That is a rare thing to find in such a young author. I see big things ahead for Duffie career wise. Even though I haven’t read book one, I do know from reading book two that if you have read the first book in this series, you will certainly want to read this book as well. The plot keeps on building upon itself, which is always a good thing. The title is aptly named, the story is well written, and the ending leaves nice, clean lines tying up loose ends. I recommend this book for children ages 10 and up.
