The Starlight Club 18: The Southern Shoshone was penned by author Joe Corso in the realistic fiction, adventure, and action subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. The plot follows Benny Rega, a soldier in Red Fortunato's mob, plagued by a gambling addiction and debts to his captain. Fearing for his life, Benny flees Queens, heading west. While on tribal land, Benny impresses the chief with his skills, leading to a job offer. After saving enough money, Benny pays off his debt to Red and proposes a lucrative plan that could benefit both Red and the tribe. However, uncertainty looms over whether Red will accept the deal or if Benny's plan will lead to unforeseen consequences, leaving Benny's fate hanging in the balance.
Author Joe Corso has crafted a superbly suspenseful novel packed with vivid storytelling and well-developed characters. The atmospheric lexical choices give a great sense of mood and urgency to the action, drawing us into Benny Rega's world where danger lurks around every corner. The intricate plot kept me guessing until the very end and it was well-paced as I eagerly followed Benny's journey from Queens to the tribal lands of the Southern Shoshone. The immersive quality and confidence of the narrative showcase Corso's talent for enveloping his intricate plots and memorable characters in a highly realistic setting. Corso expertly navigates themes of loyalty, redemption, and the consequences of one's actions, creating a compelling narrative that builds into an emotionally gripping, high-stakes experience that keeps your heart in your throat. Overall, The Starlight Club 18 is a gripping addition to the existing series and I’d highly recommend it as a thrilling read filled with suspense and intrigue.
