When seventeen-year-old Kellen St. James graduates from college, he isn’t expecting to do much more than to start a new life. Boy, did he get what he wanted! The Star Child by Stephanie Keyes is the adventure Kellen wasn’t looking for. Leaving his narcissistic, controlling, and immoral father in the dust, he takes off to Ireland to start a life where he is in control. He inherits a house and fortune from his grandmother and finally breaks the ties that bound him to his father and brother. While there, he meets the girl of his dreams, Calienta (aka The Star Child), who reveals he’s part of a prophecy to save the world from being cast into darkness by her brother. To do this, they have to sneak into the precarious land of Faery. Here Kellen and Calienta are tested by the land and its inhabitants. Will they complete the prophecy and save those they love? Or will the world as they know it be cast into darkness?
The Star Child by Stephanie Keyes is for those, alongside myself, who love Irish mythology, adventure, and young adult romance. Each page left me wanting more. As I continued reading, I could feel myself being transported to Faery. Stephanie’s words were brought to life. I struggled when the main character struggled. I could feel the fear, joy, and cold of the mist from the sea. I could hear the chanting and characters speaking as if I was sitting right there with them. The Star Child is spellbinding and mesmerizing. At times, I read it aloud to my ten-month-old because I couldn’t put The Star Child down. I had to know what happened next! I enjoyed this book and I certainly recommend The Star Child by Stephanie Keyes to anyone looking for an adventure of their own. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for Kellen and the star child Calienta.
