This is a book of original songs for the 5-string banjo transcribed accurately by Mean Mary and her brother Frank James. The book has eight songs including, Good Time Gal, I’ve Been Down, The Sparrow and the Hawk, Sugar Creek Mountain, plus four more. These songs have Banjo Tablature for all songs, as well as Guitar Tablature for select songs, plus lyrics and chords. "The Sparrow and the Hawk" is 48 pages long, has black and white photos of the authors throughout its pages, along with an attractive cover. A DVD is also included as well as an interesting introduction in the front of the book about Mean Mary.
Mean Mary’s story of her journey to where she is now in life is one I enjoyed immensely. It was neat getting to know Mary and how and why she became a musician. Mary has included a page of Banjo Annotations as well along with a lot of other valuable tips and help throughout this book of banjo songs. My son plays the guitar and banjo and he was impressed with the neat and easy to follow format of the book. He loved the songs and enjoyed playing them very much. The DVD video included is an added bonus and very helpful in learning the songs. This is a very nice song book/DVD package for you banjo lovers out there. You will find the book as well as playing the songs a fun and enjoyable experience.
