The Spark is the first book in the Touch Me series by Lara Ingvar and it makes for an exquisite reading experience, a delightful paranormal romance with rock-solid characters. Kira Bell has one flaw: she will do anything for her family. She is driven and always finds a way to get whatever she wants. It is not surprising then that she keeps things from her boyfriend. But when she accepts the job as a personal assistant to Alexander Dark, the head of the Azaik Corporation, she is unaware that she is putting herself into the very center of a consuming fire. Dark hides a secret and his subordinates have no clue of who he really is. He is, in fact, a pureblood Itkhis and he is about to suck Kira into a world she can’t resist, filled with danger, vices, and dark secrets. This world also offers the hope of finding a missing mother. Can there be any turning back for her once she has felt the real touch of the Itkhis?
If you want romance in a world that is well-imagined and flawlessly executed, then The Spark is the book for you. It is bursting with characters that are exceptionally written and sophisticated. Kira Bell drew me in, a vivid, self-assured heroine who knows just what she wants and how to get it and who does not care about the rules she breaks to get her way. But she finds herself in a world that absorbs her in a manner she never imagined. The world of the Itkhis is a brilliantly imagined and perfectly written piece in the story. The Spark is deliciously fun and super sexy, written with intoxicating darkness that rubs off quickly on the reader. Lara Ingvar brings alive characters with passions that haunt readers, and she creates a supernatural element that does not seem distant from our idle dreams. Hers is a fresh voice in the paranormal romance genre and the yarn she has woven sucked me in, irrevocably. It was a perfect escape for me and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
