The Sleeping Myth is a work of fiction in the science fiction, fantasy, and action subgenres, and is the third novel of the Shadow Journey adventure series. The work is intended for the young adult reading audience but can also be enjoyed by mature middle-grade readers and adults alike. Penned by author Jo Allen Ash, we return to the exploits of Grace, Duncan, and their family and newfound friends as the quest to uncover the location of the fabled Cavern of Sleeping Myth gets underway. Ancient science and powerful magical discoveries await the team, but the Sleeping Myth may not be all it was originally promised to be.
Author Jo Allen Ash continues this thrilling sci-fi and fantasy series with plenty of action, intrigue, and interpersonal drama as Grace and Duncan search for freedom from those who pursue them still. One of the features of this novel that really impressed me is the blend of technological and magical elements that the author handles seamlessly, creating legends and myths that play off our own history whilst also inventing fresh, original worldbuilding for the dangerous, war-torn land that the youngsters of this tale must travel across. Duncan is such an enigmatic character for me with his wise guy ways and clever wordplay, and I’m certain that YA readers (and indeed the young at heart) will each find a member of the ensemble to connect with and admire. Overall, The Sleeping Myth builds on the existing series with plenty of fascinating action, deep character-building moments, and great imaginative plot twists, and I would highly recommend it and the series in general to sci-fi and fantasy enthusiasts everywhere.
