The Shadow Cult (Soul of Sorrows, Book 2) by Robert Cano is an original dark fantasy novel. It's about the Shadow Cult, which is gaining power and looking for new ways to dominate the dark magics of the wraith. There is an army after the World Trees--one is all it needs--but will the army succeed in getting it, and what will happen if it does? War looms large, but who are they really fighting, and which one is more dangerous? This dark and mysterious world of power struggles and warring kingdoms and rulers will have you turning pages as fast as you can. The author weaves a poetic odyssey that is a sequel to The Dark Archer and doesn't disappoint in scope or plot execution.
What I enjoyed about this novel is the enthusiasm of the author. Cano is obviously a born writer, loves to entertain, enlighten, and move reading audiences with his ideas and phrasing. He brushes plot, character, and world-building together onto his canvas, resulting in a work of art that is unique to the genre, and pleasing to the senses. Some of the characters and situations are dark and explicit, and there is some violence, but it is justified. I like the struggles and dilemmas of the main characters, the choices they face, and the author's explanations of possible outcomes if certain decisions are made. There are elements and language that are formal here, but with a modern twist, and some unexpected events that may stun you but work for the story. If you are a fan of the first book in the trilogy and want to find out what happens with Bene, Juhalin, Arhyin, the creatures, and the Shadow Cult, you should place The Shadow Cult (Soul of Sorrows, Book 2) by Robert Cano at the top of your to-read list.
