The Seventh Guard: Inflection Points is another work of science fiction from author Francis Halpin, and the second novel in The Seventh Guard series. We return to the adventures of Robert Lowden after the events of Destiny Expires. Our acerbic anti-hero has finally worked out what it was that alienated him so very much from the rest of the world, and the truth of his incredible discoveries will now lead him towards a higher purpose on Earth. Robert and his guardsmen recognize the importance of facing the dark forces which are ready to destroy their planet, but there is more to discover and more to push for in order to be strong enough to handle the battle which lies ahead.
Once again, author Francis Halpin creates a very adult world of serious considerations, complex plot structures and brain teasers suitable for the hard boiled science fiction fans of the world. I fail to see how anyone who enjoyed the first book couldn’t find themselves totally immersed again with Robert Lowden and his brain-bending form of defending the Earth from darkness. The plot thickens very much in this new instalment, making for a wilder ride with darker turns and deeper consequences, all of which I enjoyed immensely. I am even starting to like Robert as a character, unlikely as that sounds! Overall, The Seventh Guard: Inflection Points offers another fantastic insight into a unique take on saving the world, with ragtag unlikely heroes aplenty and a serious commitment to delivering a solid but complex and mysterious plot.
