The Secret of Heaven by Felix Alexander explorers the message of the Lost Bible, also referred to as the Gospel of Barnabas. Hidden for many years, it has surfaced again in the possession of Lazarro de Medici. The Group, a secret society, murders him in an attempt to obtain this artifact and suppress its secret. With his dying breath, Lazarro tasked Professor Aiden Leonardo with exposing the secret of heaven. But, as a suspect in Larazzo's death, Aiden is not only on the run from The Group but also from the police with his fiancee, Miriam, and his brother, Lorenzo. The Secret of Heaven is a story of double-crossing since many of those working for The Group put their lives at risk to help expose the secret of heaven.
I was drawn into the narrative from the beginning with the murder of Lazarro and the telephone conversation shortly after that, suggesting that Detective Marquest is a double. It is easy to feel Aiden's bewilderment when he finds himself on the run from the police and for his life from The Group. Felix Alexander kept me turning the pages with the information he revealed from many manuscripts and kept me wondering if, ultimately, the message of the Lost Bible would prove to be false. I didn't feel that the information provided through the narrative proved the Gospel of Barnabas as an accurate source. I recommend The Secret of Heaven to readers who enjoy historical fiction and novels about secret societies and conspiracies.
