The Sea Princess is a children's adventure picture book written by Kristi Shimada with illustrations by Eko Setiawan. The fourth installment in The Lilia Series, it follows Princess Avalon, an eight-year-old mermaid living with her parents in Bellus Castle, in the Sea of Antares. Her mother, Queen Mira, is a beautiful mermaid from Evia, who possesses healing abilities, and her father, King Kai, is a fierce protector of their kingdom. Every year, during the summer solstice, Princess Avalon and her friend Finn, a white Beluga whale, release Starlight Sea Orbs to celebrate the occasion. In this story, the pair decides to swim to Evia to collect orbs, accompanied by Gill, the hammerhead guard. However, their journey does not go as planned because they encounter an evil being in the sea that poses great danger to all the creatures.
The Sea Princess is a heartwarming story that teaches kids about kindness, friendship, and justice. The book features interesting and unforgettable characters, particularly the brave mermaid Princess Avalon and her friend Finn, who kids will surely love. I appreciated how Kristi Shimada depicted the kindness of the characters in the story. She showed how they helped heal others and stood up against an evil being who terrorized all the sea creatures. These incidents are great examples that can instill compassion and bravery in children. The colorful and vibrant illustrations bring the characters to life and make the pages look magical, which perfectly aligns with the themes and storyline. I loved reading this book and highly recommend parents and caregivers to share it with their children.
