The Sea Cat Dreams by J.R. Poulter is a beautifully written, heartwarming children's book that follows a sailor's cat as he looks back on his life. The cat had not been born a sailor's cat; instead he was born on a farm, but one day a sailor came to visit and the cat climbed into the sailor's bag and wasn't discovered until they were far out at sea. The cat became one of the crew members. He would catch any mice that dared to enter the cargo hold. The cat would lounge on the deck while dolphins jumped and played. But then one day while at sea, there was a storm, and the sailor was swept out to sea, and although they searched, he was never found. What will happen to his cat?
I really, really enjoyed reading The Sea Cat Dreams by J.R. Poulter. The book is very well written and the rhyming in this book is excellent. The rhyming gives this book a fun rhythm that readers will enjoy. The story is very heartwarming, and I liked that the cat is shown to be kind and comforting, as well as being shown with feelings. Many people will be able to relate to the cat, because many people have lost loved ones. The story is full of suspense. I liked that the cat is reminiscing about everything. The message of the book is very profound. The pictures by Mula Ulasowski are well drawn and clearly depict each scene. The pictures are very beautiful and the cat is adorable. I would definitely recommend this book to all readers.
