The Saga of Indian Em’ly is a children’s historical adventure story written by Sara Harris. Shining Waters, or “Indian Em’ly” as the English called her, was a very loyal and very beautiful woman of the Apache tribe. In these four books, Shining Waters teaches her two children, “Wind Knocks down Lodges” and “Cactus Flowers”, through a journey about unconditional love with hardship and loss. As Jesus Christ watches over them on their long and hard path, he uses Shining Waters to show that not everyone thinks or acts the same, no matter what color or gender they are. Whether they are kind or whether they are evil, we are all made equally from the same God. With these hard lessons in life to learn, will Em’ly’s children come out strong, or will everything she taught them be forgotten and they fall into the trap laid by the evil one?
The Saga of Indian Em’ly is a faith-based children’s adventure. This fast-paced series left me with a mixture of emotions, starting with sadness and ending with a joyful yet powerful climax. While the author used different instances of how horrible people can be, she also showed how even though some people are cruel, there are still loving and caring people as well. The characters made the story come alive by having unique characteristics, which turned a fictional story into a realistic, easy flowing 'this could have really happened' lesson. This book was mostly clean, but in order to understand some of the hard lessons life brings, the author used some violence to show the hard lessons, so I would suggest a young adult audience.
