The shocking murder of an old time school teacher from a one-room school house in Delaware is just the start of the amazing adventures in The Rhyme of Sailors Cove by Lee and Sheila Berkes. When local police chief Sailor Warren shares information with the detective from Philadelphia investigating the murder, some odd coincidences lead to clues that span centuries and the globe. It all starts with a simple jump-rope rhyme that the school teacher’s husband taught to three young girls. The information contained in that rhyme refers to ancient treasure, secret societies, and even the Nazis during World War II. Sailor Warren, his long-time friend Tess Withers, and the three now grown girls embark on a mission to lure the murderer to the long lost treasure where he can be called to justice. From the small Delaware town to the Vosges mountains in France, the group tracks down the last members of a group sworn to protect a vast fortune. Will they be able to save these people and their secret from a madman?
Thoroughly entertaining with wonderful characters, lively action, and plenty of amazing historical background, husband and wife team Lee and Sheila Berkes’ novel, The Rhyme of Sailors Cove, is a must-read for every mystery lover. Plenty of humor offsets the seedier elements of crime as the diverse characters come together to solve the mystery that is nothing short of epic. Wonderful descriptions help you feel that you are right there in the action, and the depth of historical background ties together many historical and contemporary legends of treasure, as well as the Nazi quest for power. Terrific story! I loved the characters, the action, the settings and the wonderful historical references. Well written and hard to put down, this book is a great beginning to what I only hope will be an ongoing series.
