In The Redemption of Jedidiah Pinkney by JR Pitts, a storm ravages the town of Tupelo, Mississippi. Winston's wife is expecting a baby but a tornado threatens the survival of the young family along with their unborn child. When Sandra Pinkney delivers her baby in an event that can be described as nothing short of a miracle, she becomes convinced that her child is special. Winston and Sandra name the child Jedidiah. As he grows up, Jedidiah does not think of himself as anything special. Instead, he hates his life. His peers frequently refer to him as ‘the crippled son of a dirt farmer’ and his persistent struggle to fit in makes his life even harder. The only consolation he has is his parents' and sister’s love. One day when out hunting in the woods with his step-father, an event occurs that completely changes the course of his life.
Definitely soul-stirring, JR Pitts’ The Redemption of Jedidiah Pinkney is a charming story that describes events surrounding the journey of a young boy from society’s shadow to a position of stardom. Jedidiah as the main character is admirable and relatable. His struggle to fit in and his disadvantaged background, not forgetting his disability, will definitely resonate with readers. He is not afraid to speak his mind and stands up for his faith amidst growing ridicule and constant pressure to conform. He knows rejection and loss, yet these do not hold him back from exploring his potential. As a whole, the story is moving and it shows what can be achieved if we remain true to who we are. Certainly a delightful and inspiring read!
