The Raven Witch of Corfu by Effrosyni Moschoudi is a fantasy romance set in Greece. Twenty years ago, while Lizzie was on vacation with her family, a witch took her twin brother Tom away. Now, she's finally returned to Greece with the mission of finding her brother and bringing him home. But when she finds Tom again, bringing him home won't be simple. The witch will only let them go free if Tom fulfills the task of healing three souls. If he fails, he'll be taken back. As she works to reconnect with her brother and outsmart the witch, she leans on new allies for help and finds herself falling for an old friend.
Effrosyni Moschoudi adds a lovely dash of magic in this sweet romance. The magical elements remain grounded in reality and are woven into a modern world, taking up a natural part of Lizzie’s life and the fight she and her brother face in order to move forward. The presence of the evil witch takes on a fairy tale vibe through her agelessness, the mysterious cave she disappears into, and her cackling personality. The past has haunted Lizzie for twenty years as the loss of her brother has affected her entire life and driven everything she does to where a distance has been placed within her relationships. This is the first time she's returned to Greece since she was a child and the stunning place is just as when she left but the people she knew have changed.
The story is a romantic one but her relationship with her brother is at the heart. When she gets Tom back, her past and present collide and she struggles to regain normalcy for them both. Though the dynamic has shifted, Moschoudi captures the love and loyalty between the siblings. Moschoudi weaves in lighter moments which add a fun, carefree spirit and romantic comedy humor. Lizzie's various relationships are explored, showing different elements of her life from her family to her friendship to romance. The story has several sunny moments but weaves in plenty of struggles as Lizzie faces conflict in her daily life separate from what she faces with the witch, and add a touch of drama to her budding romance. The Raven Witch of Corfu is a delightful read and is the perfect treat for those who love sweet romances set in stunning locations with romance, family reconnecting, solid female friendships, and a wicked witch.
