The Race to the Big Bang is the sequel to The Stardust Mystery. Peter Solomon, the author of this science fiction book, is also responsible for the colorful illustrations and graphics in the book. It is the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and The Cosmic Kids is bored due to the ongoing lockdowns. They are very excited when they hear about the next TSI virtual contest - The Race to the Big Bang. The competition takes place in the Virtual World that they have developed in the previous book, The Stardust Mystery. After qualifying, they are ecstatic to win the regional price of $25 000 with the planetary space station they've built. But they face fierce competition. Will the secret trick they've discovered to save screen time be enough to let them win the grand prize?
In The Race to the Big Bang, Peter Solomon highlights the effect the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns had on kids and adults alike. He uses alternate viewpoints from the different kids and natural dialogue to show their feelings and experiences of the pandemic and how the lockdown affected their families. The TSI contest gives them purpose and shows how planning, teamwork, and creative problem-solving helped the Cosmic Kids win the grand prize. I love how they use the Virtual World in a project to create videos to explain how the Coronavirus infects people and makes them sick and how a vaccine helps our bodies' immune systems fight back. The Race to the Big Bang is a superb book for kids seven years and older to expand their vocabulary and learn about science in a fun way.
