In “The Puppet’s Secret” by Alex Samms the reader is privy to Angie’s journal which reveals all of her obsessions, desires and secrets through the years. We join Angie when she is an older, more mature woman who has to live with a secret. The journal reveals how the younger Angie was enjoying the beach with her family when she saw an exceptionally handsome man and woman walking hand and hand. She paid little attention to the woman although she was more than aware of her presence. Angie knew she and the unknown man belonged together. Angie was overwhelmed with love and a deep desire for the unknown man but she only felt hatred for the woman. Angie went to the beach again and again hoping to catch a glimpse of the man. She would stop at nothing to possess him. Her actions left her with a dark secret that she would never reveal.

“The Puppet’s Secret” is a short story with only 52 pages. Alex Samms has a flair for drama and suspense. This tale a must read for fans of psychological suspense and romance. The main character in this story is Angie, a woman obsessed with a man she has never met. I can only speculate on why she would suddenly become obsessed with a man she never really met. Perhaps she was living in a failing marriage or perhaps she was a woman in need of psychological help. Angie was an avid reader of romance books and in her delusional state she expected the man to return her love and they would live happily ever after, the way her romance books always ended. This book reminded me of "Misery" by Stephen King. This is Alex Samms' first published work. I would encourage her to write a full length book or an anthology of her short stories.
