The Psychic Son by Christopher J Galvez is a thrilling book written in the absorbing first person narrative voice of the young protagonist. He is Dominic Gambino, a boy who grew up doted on by loving parents. He had always figured it was just natural for parents to tell their kids they are special every time his parents said he was special. The truth is that Dominic is indeed special, and when he discovers that he has psychic powers and premonitions of terrible events before they happen, his dad who is a cop sees in him an indispensable instrument to catch criminals. The two trawl the streets to apprehend criminals, but a sudden revelation changes everything: the source of Dominic's powers.
I loved the protagonist and the way he is introduced. He is a typical boy struggling with the usual things that typical boys struggle with in school. But from the moment he starts having premonitions, everything changes. The greater part of the conflict is about how Dominic becomes reconciled to his gift and when he is almost convinced he has found a purpose, a twist happens in the story. It is told in an engrossing way that allows readers to connect directly with the thoughts and emotions of the protagonist. The prose is impeccable and the entire narrative is filled with action and intensely emotional moments. The Psychic Son is as entertaining as it is unnerving and Christopher J Galvez doesn't let up his grip on the reader's attention. A fantastic read!
