As things escalated, she used the opportunity to finally get the upper hand over the AI and their masters.

They have convicted Kim of being a Genderist and having unsanctioned sex with Shan. Dani befriends her and helps her assimilate. Kim joins Len, a gangster entrepreneur, in his pedicab service. Part two is Shadows, and in this section, Kim tries to evade assassination. After entering a deep virtual reality simulation led by Akari, Kim knows she must find Professor Nix’s laboratory to stop the A.I. from annihilating humans. During her attempt to discover answers, she runs into her love, Shan. The final Part is Maelstrom, which sees Kim’s plan put into action.

Craig W. Stanfill exceeded my expectations with the complexity of The Prophecy of The Heron. The chapters were given descriptive titles that had me anticipating Kim’s actions, and as the story evolved, she became a powerful force to be reckoned with. Kim’s hypervigilance keeps her alive, although she cannot avoid making enemies everywhere she goes. Her constant persecution has her emotionally drained. I liked how she had no problem speaking her mind and attempting to manipulate people into aiding her cause. Maelstrom was my favorite part, with the A.I. Nixie’s involvement. The development of all the supporting characters was vividly achieved. The freezing scenery is easy to envision and adds to the challenges Kim faces. I found the pronoun note at the beginning of the book made it easier to understand the pan-global language. The conclusion of the book leaves the possibility of a sequel. Anyone who likes A.I. dystopian novels where rebellion is a prominent feature will appreciate The Prophecy of The Heron.
